Fast fashion is responsible for the depletion of non-renewable sources, the emission of greenhouse gasses, and the use of massive amounts of water and energy. IUCN 2017 report estimated that 35% of all microplastics – tiny pieces of non-biodegradable plastic – in the ocean came from the laundering of synthetic textiles like polyester. It not only has a huge environmental impact but also poses societal problems, especially in developing economies because they are viable for garment industries due to cheap labor, vast tax breaks, and lenient laws and regulations.
Evidence of forced and child labor in the fashion industry in Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Turkey, Vietnam, and many other countries has been found.
Blue Urbane was founded by Emily Blumen to be a trusted & sustainable online boutique where eco-minded people could shop for clothing, jewelry, and more and know they were making a positive contribution. All the items we offer are personally handpicked to ensure that they are all made with high-quality, sustainable materials and connect back to our mission of supporting sustainable and women-run small businesses.

All clothing featured in our Zero Waste collection is made from fabrics and materials that are upcycled or what is called “deadstock”. It means that they are made from excess textiles that would have been thrown out, but instead got made into these beautiful garments!

Our clothing is made from organic cotton, linen, deadstock, and other eco-friendly and recycled materials, which are good for the planet so you can shop with us knowing you’re not contributing to pollution or waste. We are also proud to support and carry only designers and small brands that pay and treat their garment workers fairly. Also, all our jewelry is handcrafted and designed by women in the USA or through fair trade in Asia.
