Microblading

If you’ve been spending quality time with an eyebrow pencil lately, then you might be excited about microblading in Houston. This semi-permanent make-up procedure can shape and fill out your brows for you, so you have one less step to worry about when you get ready in the morning.

It’s a fantastic solution, but microblading is like any cosmetic procedure. There are potential pitfalls that can occur throughout the process.

Here are some common microblading mistakes, and how to avoid them.

Mistake #1: Choosing the Wrong Technician

Do your research before booking your first appointment. You want an esthetician who is licensed, experienced, and qualified.

Read the reviews, ask about their training, and ask to see a before and after portfolio of their work.

Finally, any reputable esthetician will want you to book a consultation long before you get the procedure done. The initial consultation allows them to learn about the condition of your skin, your goals for the microblading process, and your coloration. It allows you both to bring up any questions or concerns, laying the groundwork for a successful session later.

If the esthetician wants to start in on your face right away, walk out and never return to that spa.

Mistake #2: Failing to Prepare

If you want good results that heal faster, you should avoid certain activities before your microblading appointment.

Your esthetician will have their own advice, but here are some common restrictions:

  • Avoid alcohol
  • Avoid blood thinners
  • Don’t use retinol products
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning

Alcohol, blood thinners, and retinol can increase your risk of bleeding and can interfere with the healing process. Sun exposure can make your skin more sensitive, which can both make the initial treatment more unpleasant and increase the amount of swelling that results.

If you take blood thinners for any condition, you must communicate that fact during your initial appointment. Ask your doctor if it’s safe to stop taking them long enough to get your microblading procedure done.

Mistake #3: Failing to Communicate Clearly

Be as clear as possible about your desired eyebrow shape or color. Bring up any allergies or skin sensitivities you have.

During the procedure, tell the technician if you experience any discomfort or pain. This will allow your esthetician to adjust their technique. Your experience should be a pleasant one!

Communication is absolutely key to getting the very best results.

Mistake #4: Failing to Listen to the Esthetician’s Recommendations

The eyebrow style that’s in fashion right now might not be the eyebrow shape and thickness that looks good on your face.

You should work closely with your technician to choose the colors, thickness, shape, and boldness levels that are just right for you. Fashions come and go.

Mistake #5: Failing to Follow Aftercare Instructions

The aftercare instructions are critical if you want to achieve great results. If you ignore them, your microblading won’t heal correctly, and the results won’t last as long. The pigmentation can even become uneven, resulting in an unsightly appearance you won’t be happy with.

While some aftercare instructions may seem slightly restrictive, remember you won’t have to put up with them forever. You only have to follow most of them for the first week.

Mistake #6: Expecting Immediate Results

The final results won’t be visible until the healing process is complete. Don’t look at the results on Day 1 and expect them to be the same results you’ll see on Day 28 when your body has fully adapted to the process.

It’s important to relax and let the process unfold.

Mistake #7: Failing to Schedule Follow-Up Appointments

Microblading results are long-lasting, but they’re only semi-permanent. In 12 to 18 months, the results of your initial appointment will fade.

Plus, you may need a few touch-up appointments here and there throughout those months. Every person is a little different. Fortunately, the healing process isn’t as intense on a touch-up appointment as it is for a full microblading appointment.

You can stop at any time, but if you want to keep the results you ultimately achieve, you’ll need to plan on developing a long-term relationship with your esthetician. Current technology has yet to deliver a permanent eyebrow tattoo solution.

Nevertheless, it sure beats drawing them on every morning, and the results look much better, too!
