Know your Councillor Candidate
Raj, an Indian born, immigrated to Canada with his family and settled in Northeast Calgary. His father, an engineer and his mother worked at numerous jobs to help build a better life for their family. Raj is your typical next door Northeast Calgary kid. He spent his childhood time shooting hoops with friends and playing cricket at Prairie Winds Park. His first part-time job was in high school, working at a local convenience store.
After studying at Lester B. Pearson high school, he attended the University of Calgary, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations. Afterwards, he attended the Schulich School of Engineering, where he secured a degree in Chemical Engineering.
He has worked for a prevalent gas and oil company in Calgary for more than ten years. Since his teenage days, he has been actively participating in his local community, where he is a regular volunteer and a devoted worshiper at the Sikh temple. In addition, Raj supports various community initiatives where he mentors young professionals and helps them find respectable jobs in Calgary. He also helps seniors or newcomers, provides them with computer skills, and supports them with job searches through the Calgary Public Library.
He has represented on the board of directors for Northeast Family Connections, where he executed the development and implementation plans that support our youth and local families. As a result, Raj understood the obstacles local families face, specifically those facing urban youth. Moreover, he is advocating and supporting better anti-racism programs at City Hall.

Raj has had an ongoing representation in the community for years. His passion for Ward 5 development and understanding of its community’s demands put him apart from other candidates. As well, his experience as a project manager has made him comprehend the financial implications of Calgary’s decisions. As the City thrives on executing different capital projects, his knowledge will be an essential additional asset.

He thrives on developing transit infrastructures and stands for better accessibility with a sustainable and intelligent approach to developing infrastructure. He strongly believes in taking care of people, and with his expertise in working, he is aware that support services are essential to healthy and thriving communities. Therefore, he stands and ensures that Ward 5 does not get past behind. Having seen the effects of privatization in Ward, Raj pledges to support front-line health workers.
